Happy New Year - Looking Ahead to 2026

A big happy New Year to everyone! I’m really looking forward to 2026. While I don’t have any big New Year’s resolutions, I have been scheming some plans for the coming year. Besides, New Year resolutions last only about two weeks anyway. While I didn’t publish nearly the amount of stories I wanted to in 2025, I felt I learned a ton of stuff when it comes to writing. I released only two stories in 2025. I know, pathetic, but it was better than no stories, so there’s that. I am nearing the final stages of the next story in my Wedding Troubles Series. I’d hoped to have it out by now, but when Christmas hit this year, I just sort of shut down and enjoyed things. Maybe I needed that because life has been quite stressful since Thanksgiving. My main computer going kaput and both a major and a minor household appliances gave up the ship along with the computer. I think I just needed to take a big step back and regroup. Now, with the holidays coming to a close, I’m excited for the coming...

A Notebook of Productivity - An Attempt to Get It Together

I’m always struggling to get my shit together and be more productive in life. Most especially my writing. If you’ve followed this blog for any length of time, then you already know this. I’ve talked about this in several posts on this blog. Back in May , I wrote a post about all the things I was working on. As always, I got lazy and didn’t really work on any of it. It was also back in May when I came up with the idea for my latest story, The Worst Man. That story sort of took my attention over everything else I was planning on doing, like learning how to build eBooks without an online converter, and other things I talked about in that post. As a result, when it came time to publish that story, I yet again used the Reedsy editor to convert my story to ePub. Which is fine. I love the Reedsy converter, and I was even thinking that maybe I’d just stick with it. Except when I went to do the final conversion, there was a hiccup on Reedsy’s side of things, and I didn’t get my ePub to co...

Blogging Weekly to Stay Productive

What to talk about today? Honestly, I have nothing. So why am I here with a blog post if I have nothing? In trying to make goals for the year, I decided to be more active on here. I want to write and post more. Why? Because I enjoy doing this. Sometime ago, I began a blog under a different name with a different focus. My goal was to post weekly. I’d read somewhere that when doing an author blog, that was a good pace to go at. When I started that now neglected blog, that’s what I did. I sat down and wrote something, anything, once a week and posted it. To my surprise, I lasted longer at it than I thought I would. I think I had even picked a day to post. Maybe it was Monday or Wednesday? I don’t remember. I could check, but I can’t be bothered right now. It’s not really important. What is important is I’d stuck to the weekly blogging for some time and I enjoyed the heck out of it. In fact, if I’d became busy during the week and it came time to post something, I’d drop everything an...

New Year, New Goals, What’s Coming Next

I hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday season. Can’t believe it’s all over with. I swear it lasted all of five minutes then, poof! it was gone. Yes, it’s that time again. Time to make goals for the new year. At the start of every year, I write down goals or things I want to achieve for the year. Rarely do I achieve them, stick with them, or remember them by February. I try again throughout the year, remaking goals and such, with the same results. As I was making my ill-fated list of goals for the year, I thought about why I don’t reach them. That is the problem I need to tackle. How to stick with my list and actually reach my goals. Some goals I achieve, but most of them, not so much. Course Corrected If you’ve been following along, then you know I’d fallen into some sort of slump or writer’s block or something. If you haven’t been following along, you can read the first post about this here and the second here . I’ll wait. All caught up? Good, let’s move forward. I am back i...

Farewell Old Friend - The Importance of Backup

Did you ever have that thought? You know the one where you think, gee this pair of shoes is falling apart and I should buy a new pair. Except you don’t because you love those shoes, they are comfy. Then, without warning, they fall apart and now you have to find a new pair. You can substitute shoes for any item you may have had this thought for. Like maybe a car. You know, you need to buy one because your rust bucket is making another new noise, but you put it off or don’t have the money, etc. You’re driving along one day and next thing you know you’re limping the poor hunk of metal off the road as best you can and calling for a tow truck. I think you get the idea of what I’m saying here. This happened to me recently. About a year ago, I realized my laptop was getting some age on it, might be a good idea to get a new one. I mentioned it to a friend, who gave me a laptop that he bought used and didn’t need or want, or bother re-selling it. I turned it on a few times, but my current lapto...

Going Back to the Past to Move on to the Future - More Course Correcting

I’m still trying to move forward with things and get stories written. When I wrote my last post, my little noodle brain was trying to figure things out. Sometimes I feel as though my noodle brain is just that - a pile of useless noodles. Ah, well, I love ramen noodles, so there’s that. One thing I thought of when trying to move forward was Christmas romance stories. It is that time of year again. When I originally conceived my Holiday Wishes series of stories way, way back, I had come up with four ideas. Her Secret Santa and The Gift of Holly were stories 1 and 2. Stories 3 and 4 didn’t get written because I’d run out of time after I finished The Gift of Holly. In late 2021 I attempted to write story 3, but alas, I couldn’t get it to come together like I’d hoped. Time slipped on by without me. In late 2022, I was determined to write and publish another story. I thought again of those unfinished Christmas stories, but I didn’t want to be tied to a tight deadline. This is when I wrote a...

Course Correcting a Creative Slump

I follow quite a few blogs, one or two of them I read daily. I also subscribe to some YouTube channels of content creators that I find interesting. I try not to watch those daily because, you know, YouTube has millions of cat videos. I shouldn’t have to say anymore on that.🐱 Recently, someone I follow on YouTube decided to do a 100 day challenge of posting videos. I found this challenge admirable and wondered if I should set some sort of writing challenge for myself. These kinds of things inspire me. Thirty days in, this YouTuber threw in the towel on the challenge. The YouTuber listed the reasons why and that he was not quitting YouTube, just the self-imposed challenge. He was going to try something else. I follow a blog by a professional writer who has set similar challenges with writing over the years. Many times he’s succeed, but a few times he has not. So why am I writing about this? Because these people show me I’m not alone. In the past, I have set goals, challenges, made...

Blogs - Why I Love Them and Why I Want to Do More

I like blogs. I read several almost daily. Most of the ones I read are by authors, but I read other kinds of blogs as well. Some blogs have helped me. For example, when I decided knitting a pair of socks was a great idea, I found a blog to help me figure out the stitches for the heel of the sock. Or when I decided to dual boot my laptop with Linux, while retaining Windows. Although, I'm not sure why, I've never really logged into my Windows partition. Oh well. The point is the info on a blog was there to help me. As some of you know I'm not big on social media. I've never understood Facebook and honestly, I'm not sure I ever will. To some extent I do, but mostly I don't. I feel like everybody is shouting, "Hey, look at me, and here's my views on this and that, today I'm upset at this other thing, and oh by the way this is what I had for breakfast with photos." I can live my life without that madness. Once upon a time, I did try to be active o...

Four Years of Self Publishing - What I’ve Learned and Looking Ahead

Last month marked four years since I began my self publishing journey. It’s hard to believe that it’s been that long already. In some ways, it’s even harder to believe that I’m still at it and still trying. It’s been a learning journey for certain. Not just about writing and publishing, but also about myself. A Brief Look Back I’ve published nine stories in these four years. I’m disappointed I haven’t published more, but at the same time, I’m amazed at how far I’ve come. From being scared to death about putting myself out there, to having nine stories published. Not a big win, but a win I’ll take. When I started this, I set out to write erotic short stories. I'd read a few books that claimed that writing short erotica would have you earning money in no time. Sounded like a good idea to me. My first three stories, His Workaholic , Getting Her Clients and Her Holiday Fireworks , certainly revolved around sex. But they also have romantic elements and could've passed as erotic ...

The Rabbit Was to Blame This Time

Some days I wonder if I should keep pursuing this whole writing thing? If I'm not getting in my own way, then it's an illness that lasts over six months. I finally get better, get past myself and think, yeah, now I'm going full speed ahead with writing and this is awesome! Then. . . Then something happens. Is it always going to be this way? Is it this way for other writers I often wonder? Are these some sort of divine tests to see if I have what it takes to keep on going? Who knows. So what happened this time? My sweet and beautiful house rabbit chewed my laptop cord. Again. Sometimes, electrical tape will do the trick. Not this time. She chewed the whole way through it. Just a small piece of the outer black plastic holding the cord together. The inner wires completely severed. There were other chew marks on the cord. What I don't understand is how she does this without getting electrocuted. Do rabbits have a natural ground that prevents this? No idea. Is this the fist ...

A Story of a Beach Story

If you have read my last post , you know I contracted Lyme Disease, which has made me eternally tired. If you read the post before that, you know that I’d started a new story. Except, being sick caused progress to stop on the story. Which was a bummer. The story takes place at the beach. I love going to the beach. I enjoy listening to the waves hit the shore, the cries of the seagulls and people laughing and having a good time while I sit in the sand watching said waves, seagulls, and people. The reason I love it so much is probably because I don’t live close to any beaches. The closest I’ve got is Lake Erie, and even that is a bit of a hike to get to. Also, if you read my post ‘Pushing Forward-More Stories in the Works’ then you know that after trying to make notes and do an outline of a story, that I finally gave up and just started writing the story with no pre-planning. I was having great fun with it. Then I became dead tired again to the point I didn’t have the energy to do much...

Pushing Forward - More Stories in the Works

It felt good to get another story out in the world. If you haven’t already read it, “The Billionaire and the Bookseller” is live on Amazon, so be sure to check it out. Before I pushed it out into the world, I started on my next story. I’m guessing I’m about half-way through it at the time I write this. This will be one of my longest stories yet. Strange how my stories seem to get longer. Maybe one day I’ll write a full-length novel. Probably without meaning to. The last story took me too long to get written. I’d run into a few problems with writing it. A Bit of Process So the last few stories, I usually noodle around with the idea and work out some things before I write the story. Sometimes this is of great help. However, I rarely look back at those notes as I’m writing. This time, I had to look back at them a few times. Mostly because I’d work on the story for a bit, then stopped. Came back to it days or sometimes weeks later and worked on it some more. I hit a roadblock on it. I kep...

Sitting Down and Getting it Done

I’m happy to report I’m well underway on a new story. It took me long enough. I tried to get one out before this, but things just didn’t work out that way. I knew if I didn’t get down to work on something, before long, another year (or two) would pass with nothing published. I didn’t want that to happen again. The problem lies in my process. I often tangle myself up trying to figure out the best way to approach a story. There are times I want to do a full outline of a story, other times I just want to dive in and see where I end up. More often than not, I start out strong with either approach, then somehow problems set in. Before I know it, I’m abandoning whatever it was I was working on and moving on to something else. It becomes an endless cycle. The only way I break out of this is to make myself sit down and dig in with determination. That’s where I’m at right now. Usually, it’s a middle road I end up traveling on. I do some back story on my characters, then write up a very br...

The Art of NOT Being so Darn Lazy

Sometimes I’m lazy. I’d like to think it happens to us all. Maybe it’s human nature, or maybe sometimes I just can’t be bothered. This is something I’ve been thinking about recently in my quest to be more productive and to get my writing career back on track. I realize that there are many times when being lazy is NOT at all justifiable. Go figure. Although, sometimes it is, just ask any cat, but I digress. Lately I’ve been exploring different themes for this humble site of mine. I found several that were nice, but there was a problem. Most of the ones I tried needed a picture in the post. Otherwise, a gawd awful ugly photo placeholder with an even uglier camera image is inserted when no photo is present. The description of one theme I looked at even said, requirements: At least one image per post At least one label per post Really? Well, that’s asking a lot. Especially when you’re feeling like a lazy slug. But then it got me to thinking, is putting a photo in every post such a b...

Sliding Back into Old Habits. . . Again

Old habits die hard, says the old cliche. Like most cliches, there is always truth in it. This last winter I did pretty good. I started blogging again; I wrote and released a new short romance story. At last! I’m on track. . . until I wasn’t. The writing began not to go well, again. I decided that if I updated the look and feel of this blog, it would spur me into action. Now it is April and my last post was in January. Obviously, it didn’t work out too well for me. Day by day, I realized I was slipping back down into the old habits I so desperately wanted to get away from. Old habits die hard. Trying to pull myself back up, I visited this site. The design changes had seemed elegant and refined at the time I did them. Before I finished all of it, I wondered on to other things. The poor blog forgotten, again. Now the design seems cold, almost dark somehow, mostly lifeless. Maybe I should do some more changes? Or is this me procrastinating again? Maybe. Or maybe it’s me trying to rekindle...

Moving Forward to 2023

Can you believe it’s almost 2023? I can’t. For those who celebrate Christmas, I hope it was a good one. I know for many here in the U.S. it wasn’t that great because of the frigid weather we had. Lucky for me, I had a nice warm blanket and a few cats to keep me warm. Now, the New Year is upon us. I often like to take the week between Christmas and New Year to come up with goals for the year. Sometimes I start out strong in January, hoping to make the best of the year, sometimes not. By February, I’ve slacked off. Come March, I wonder where I went wrong. This year, my life is in total chaos. It started a little over two months ago. Even though I’m a private person, I may write about some of what is going on in my personal life in future posts. Mainly because it might help others. But for now, I’m in a place where I wonder what’s the point in trying to set goals for the coming year when so much is uncertain in my life right now? Except, reviving this blog and writing a new story has real...

This Twitter Thingy Stuff

Many people are really up in a roar about everything happening over at Twitter. I guess I can understand, somewhat. I’m more or less an outsider looking in at the situation. I’ve never tweeted. Not once in my life. Shocking, I know. If you read my About page, then you should know that I’m not on other social media outlets. Why? Because I totally suck at them. For whatever reason, they have never held my interest. I have tried to be more active on Facebook (under my real name) but it never lasts. I get bored, and that’s it. Every once in a while I might read tweets from people, or Facebook posts, or Instagram posts of some of my favorite authors, but I have no desire to take part in being an active member of those sites. Honestly, I do not know why. It’s the way I am. This may change one day. Who knows, I might find a platform I like and that will be it. I’ll be hooked. Stranger things have happened. Right now, I find it amusing? Interesting? Not sure what the right word is. Many peopl...

3 Things I Liked About 2020

Here we are in 2021 already. I’m sure it relieves some people after everything that happened in 2020 and hoping for a better year this time around. Honestly, I can’t complain too much about 2020. This may surprise some, maybe others not so much. I was talking with a friend the other day, and we both listed the bright spots of the past year. I mean yes; it was a crappy year. Too many people lost jobs, and/or family members and close friends, a crazy, demented circus known as the U.S. election happened, lock downs, riots, etc. So some of you may wonder how I could find bright spots in all of that? I don’t consider myself an optimistic person although, over the past few years, I’ve been slowly trying to change that. So here is my list of 3 things I found great about 2020: 1. I took the leap and self-published some stories For the past two years or so, I’d given this serious consideration for many reasons. So I started writing stories, but they became unruly and I’d start another one...

Stuff That is Coming Soon

I’ve gotten back in full swing of working again. Whatever sort of derailment I had back in July (probably the heat) has lifted, and I’m working on several things at the moment. So I thought I’d do a rundown of all the things I have going on that will come your way soon. New Stories First up, I found a story I’d started, I have no idea how long ago, that appeared by accident one day as I was trying to do something else (what that something else was is a story for another time) and I thought, hmm. . . I like this and this story would fit in with my Office After Hour series I started that I sort of fizzled out on. So a third story in the Office After Hours will come your way. I’m almost finished with the first draft. So far, this one is looking like it will be my longest story yet. It’s another MMF story. Getting Her Clients , my other MMF story, didn’t do as well in sales. I thought maybe MMF stories aren’t the way to go. But, I like reading those kinds of stories, and I’m having ...
